#53 Good, tough paddling into the breeze and a chop. Paddled to the Breezy Point public beach and back.
Century Club: Bob Ohler
Good, quick paddle to Breezy Point line and back.
The race was cancelled but after we rode out the violent storm in the slip, we went out, sailed around the Pride of Baltimore, and then to the bridge and back.
#50, as in halfway to the SpinSheet Magazine Century Club AND 50 miles today, in heavy winds!
Our 14-day cruise of the Chesapeake Bay gut cut to 10 because of the heat and a mechanical issue. Today, it felt like we were loose change in the washing machine. Winds were 15-20, sometimes a sustained 20, gusting 25. To make matters worse, the wind was blowing in one direction, while the outgoing tide wanted to push the waves in the opposite direction. This is what is known as a “confused chop.” Our 40-year old Cape Dory 30 and the crew were up to the challenge. It was 50 miles down the Bay from Galesville on the West River to our home port in Solomons, MD. Oh, it’s good to be home!
#49. Drum Point Cove on the Wye West River to the Miles, to the Ratern Bay, across the Bay to West River and Galesville. Tied up at Hartge's. Showered, and took on ice and provisions from Dave. Had light air, some air, more wind and great wind coming across. A good, all-wind conditions day. Top speed 7.7 knots.
Tilghman Creek to St Mikes to Drum Point Cove on the Wye West River. We got ice, showers , lunch at Corah's, ice cream at Justine's, and some provisions at the deli.
Then it was on the the Wye West River. Anchored behind Drum Point, taking full advantage of the southerly breeze blowing right up the river. Had the anchorage to ourselves and we enjoyed the setting sun and the rising, "Strawberry Moon" on the first full day of summer!
#47 Corsica River to Chester River thru Kent Island Narrows and on to Tilghman Creek.
Upwind beat out of Swan Creek, beam reaching into the Chester River, downwind run to the Corsica. Hook down in 10’ of water. With apologies to Jimmy Buffet, “living my life like a song.”
