Jeff finished up the engine maintenance this morning and we launched the Key West for the season! We had a nice boat ride and drug a few lines through the water but there were no fish to be found. Hoping for better luck next time.

It was a beautiful sunny, breezy May Sunday when we christened Terrapin's brand new Quantum sails for a spicy day sail. The sails look great and Terrapin has never performed so beautifully under sail! Looking forward to an exciting season of sailing/cruising.

The forecast was not great for wind or sunshine four our ILCA spring invitational regatta but we managed to get in some racing. Two races in light breeze and heavy ebb current in the river on Saturday and two races off Bembe Beach on Sunday. Breeze started off better on Sunday but did die off towards the end of race four causing the RC to attempt a shortened course at the leeward gate. Unfortunately, they botched the job requiring a protest hearing for redress. After a judges decision for my redress score I won the tie breaker putting me in first place for the weekend. It was very close racing and tough competition!

TESOD stands for Tuesday Evening Sail One Design and it is an SSA tradition. Every Tuesday from late April through mid-September we run fin casual races in the Severn River. There is no scoring but it is always competitive. It is a great way to forget about your workday stress and practice your sailing skills. These are the nights I participated.
1) 4/25 - light breeze and a beautiful sunset
2) 5/2 - windy and chilly
3) 5/9 - light and sunny
4) 5/30- light breeze shifting right. I won three radial races!
5) 6/6- light westerly shifting south. Hazy sunset
6) 6/13- great southerly breeze with waves!
7) 7/11 - hot, sun, some breeze and a beautiful sunset
8) 7/18 - beautiful night, light breeze and live tunes in DTA
9) 8/1 - light breeze drifter
10) 8/22- felt rusty after several weeks off. Light breeze. Capsized once, win the last two races
11) 8/29 - light breeze

We took a fun powerboat ride to Culebrita, a tiny island by Culebra, to enjoy the snorkeling and hikes go Tortuga Beach, the rocky tide pools and the abandoned lighthouse. There were many goat and hermit crab sighting and some cervesas on the beach. We had some rain showers but overall a really fun day!

We were saddened to find out upon our arrival in San Juan that our Cape Air flight to Culebra was cacelled. But it turned out to be an adventure and a day in the water as we grabbed a taxi to the ferry terminal in Ceiba. Unfortunately it was dark and raining so not much to see. But we made it go the island by boat! A great way to start a beach vacation.

I had the unique experience to represent Severn Sailing Association at an amazing women's keelboat event hosted by the SDYC. The event was amazing and the competition and comradarie unparalleled. My SSA teammates and I had a blast and we sailed really well, placing 9th overall and winning the last race of the silver fleet finals. Hoping I get to do this again next year!
